Door-to-Door Canvassers
Officers in our firm have decades worth of experience that reaches back to the epic consumer rights battles for insurance reform. In 1988 and subsequent years, our efforts in California achieved the landmark passage and defense of Proposition 103.

Over the years we have built organizing models that have been constantly tested and refined. More than 5,000 canvassers have learned the basic skills of precinct organizing in our field offices or on our campaign projects. We’ve developed strategies to get doors opened and messages delivered. We’re constantly pursuing perfection.

Expand Candidate Name Recognition
In an age of multimedia competing for voter attention, there’s still nothing more powerful than a political message taken to each individual voter, door-to-door, and face-to-face. Mass mailing, internet campaigns, phone banking, and media ads are important. And so to are social networking platforms like facebook and twitter. But there’s still no substitute for engaging a voter one on one and bringing the immediacy of the election process right to voter’s doorstep. Canvassing projects urgency of cause and a sense of presence. We can help a candidate introduce themselves to thousands of voters in a highly personal way. Our canvassers have worked very closely with campaigns and have helped candidates deliver a defined biography. We can help a candidate strengthen name identification amongst voters by reinforcing positive characteristics and achievements. We can also identify supporters and get them to take an additional step toward helping boost name ID by persuading supporters to accept a lawn sign or volunteering themselves.

Candidate Advocacy
Make campaign an active verb; campaigning really happens when a canvasser is at the door. Our canvassers have been tasked to emphasize single or multiple theme candidacies. We’ll deliver campaign literature while engaging an average of 25-40 voters per canvasser per night. This number can fluctuate based on the distance between households or the number of apartment complexes encountered on a nightly basis. We develop our canvassers to be conversational, but concise and accurate. We also teach them how to be good listeners and note takers.

Intelligence
One of the most vital contributions our canvassers provide is intelligence. Our canvassers are organized into small crews. Each crew debriefs a crew manager nightly. Each manager then reports to a lead organizer where an accumulative report is assembled. Our reports quantify, precinct by precinct, how many doors were knocked on, how many contacts were made, showing who supports, who opposes, who remains undecided. Within our nightly reports, we also write a short summary of noteworthy events, comments, or questions. Previous campaigns have used our nightly reports as a sounding board to gauge message effectiveness or to develop new campaign themes. Did a mass mailer have any impact with voters? What kind of literature has the opposing campaign sent out? By having door-to-door canvassers engaging voters, we can instantly give a candidate feedback on what is making traction with voters and what is not. A candidate using our field staff gains an enhanced investment on every dollar spent on mailed literature. We also update all precinct lists; noting which voters have moved or are deceased, what are the best phone numbers or email addresses to make future contacts with, and we fill out lawn sign requests. Lawn sign cards are forwarded with nightly reports. In many cases, we can actually get lawn signs posted in yards the same night.

Impact & Enhance GOTV Operations
For every candidate, Election Day is an anxious day. Something unplanned or unexpected almost always happens. By having canvassers in precincts for several weeks, a campaign will significantly reduce the number of unexpected surprises. Walking precincts is a constant exercise in perfecting and predicting the outcome of an election. And when a surprise, big or small, does happen -- a key volunteer has a family emergency or a poll watcher has transportation problems -- we can often provide the campaign with experienced staff to fill in the gaps. What we have provided to previous GOTV efforts: a meticulous quantification of voters precinct by precinct, poll checking, prep work with lawn signs and door hangers, and the ability to find voters who need help getting to the polls.
